One of the most distressing things about the current political climate (soundbites being more important than informed, considered policy) is the dumbing down of political discourse. Of course twitter doesn’t help.

Though I have a background in biochemistry, I confess that I didn’t know that pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis was the longest word in the English language. It isn’t a word I’ve ever had cause to use. Fortunately.

Book Club – John Updike’s ‘Rabbit Run’


Fellow twitterer, Alan Garner recommended John Updike’s ‘Rabbit Run’ for book club and then promptly buggered off back to Blighty (after I had redesigned his twitter icon, too!). We will miss his erudite musings, though I’m not sure about the book…quite misogynistic, but written in 1959 and published 1961, so things were different then. (more…)
