I Wonder What Enamel Artist Julia Ares Is Doing Now

Early this summer, we spent a couple of weeks driving along the northern coast of Spain as far as A Coruña. It’s a working town, lacking the glamour of San Sebastian, or Barcelona. However, it has great food and wine, a surf beach and a huge waterfront path.  We walked it from the beach past the Roman lighthouse and down to the old town. The last part was lined with peach-coloured lampposts from the mid nineties, each of which had 4 ceramic (oops – enamel – thanks, Verónica!) works of art. They were all by the same artist, Julia Ares.

Free eBook on the iBooks Store: Dog Down Under

The boyf, Billie and I used to live in Melbourne. Before we moved back to the UK, we did one last trip around Australia. Travelling in Australia with a dog can be challenging (you can’t go into National Parks and they are banned from a lot of beaches, or have to be on leash a lot of the time) and we found that the further we were from the big cities, the better our experience. I wrote up those experiences for an eBook called Dog Down Under.

Back From Spain

The boyf and I just spent a couple of weeks in Spain on a bit of a fact-finding trip. We are hoping to live there at some point and get our Spanish to a better level (we used it a lot on the trip, as most of our encounters were with people who didn’t speak any English). Enjoyed driving around the Basque country and La Rioja, eating amazing food and drinking fabulous wine.
