Have You Ever Felt Like Living in Another Country?

I’ve been very lucky as a cartoonist in the era of the internet. I’ve been able to work from almost anywhere. Because of my UK-Kiwi citizenship, I’ve also been able to live in a lot of places. So I’ve lived and worked in the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

But I always wanted to live somewhere where they didn’t speak English, where I could learn the language. I am rubbish at languages and hated trying to learn French and German in school. But Spanish is more logical. The way it is written is the way it is pronounced, once you learn the basic rules (unlike English: pare, pear, pair!!!). Second Hand Shopping in Spain

buying second hand TV from thrift store

It is hard to buy second hand in Spain, but we got a tip off about one second hand store that exists in Irun (turns out there is one in San Sebastian too). It’s run by Emaus Traperos and it’s HUGE! Traperos-de-Emaus

After a trip to Al Campo (vast supermarket), we got what we needed and set it up and it works! This should help us learn a bit more Spanish. And get addicted to telenovelas….

Back From Spain

The boyf and I just spent a couple of weeks in Spain on a bit of a fact-finding trip. We are hoping to live there at some point and get our Spanish to a better level (we used it a lot on the trip, as most of our encounters were with people who didn’t speak any English). Enjoyed driving around the Basque country and La Rioja, eating amazing food and drinking fabulous wine.
