I Wonder What Enamel Artist Julia Ares Is Doing Now

Early this summer, we spent a couple of weeks driving along the northern coast of Spain as far as A Coruña. It’s a working town, lacking the glamour of San Sebastian, or Barcelona. However, it has great food and wine, a surf beach and a huge waterfront path.  We walked it from the beach past the Roman lighthouse and down to the old town. The last part was lined with peach-coloured lampposts from the mid nineties, each of which had 4 ceramic (oops – enamel – thanks, Verónica!) works of art. They were all by the same artist, Julia Ares.

Happy Holidays From Hondarribia

It’s not feeling very Christmassy here in Northern Spain. It has been 20 degrees C and it should be about 10, but in truth, it is like an everlasting summer. I’ve been out paddle boarding on the river Bidasoa and tomorrow I plan to go for a surf. Great fun, but not Christmassy. At least it gets dark at night and there are Christmas lights and decorations to enjoy.
