Recent Holiday Highlights and Back to Work

We had a great Christmas down at the Mornington Peninsula and after an extended time away from the drawing board, it’s hard to get back into the creative mindset. The heat doesn’t help (mid 30s today and 41 degrees C predicted for Monday) as I’d rather be at the beach.

As a celebration of my 40th birthday, Duncan and I tacked on a Big Trip to our Sydney visit for the Stanley Awards. The trip started well – it was fun to catch up with fellow cartoonists, as always, and the Awards night was a cracker. It was also the 25th birthday of the Awards, so most people made an effort to dress up (I confess though that I bought my dress in an op shop and altered it!). (more…)

Oscar harnesses the power of aikido

Port Phillip is a great council. They sponsor, or promote a lot of community-building activities. I go to a community tennis session on Friday afternoons and my yoga class used to be free (I now pay for a class with the same teacher). This last 6 weeks I’ve been doing a self-defence course run by the Elwood Aikido dojo and it has been challenging to say the least. I ¬†think I’ve learnt a lot and most of what I’ve learnt has been psychological and not physical. (more…)
