Despite some blasts of heat, our garden has survived pretty well and we have harvested a lot of courgettes, beans, lettuce, potatoes, herbs and a singular beet and tomato!

Hoses are banned so we have to water by can from the rainwater tanks. As they run dry, we will only be able to water from 6am-8am on Saturdays and Tuesdays! Absurd, when market gardens use a lot more water.

Square Foot Gardening

Our community plot is fairly small – about a metre and a half, by 3 metres. We want to grow a lot of things, so decided to give “square foot gardening” a try. I had read about it on the net and seen a piece on Gardening Australia and it seems like a good way to maximise space.
