Cricket Cartoon

This strip was written with the American audience very much in mind (for whom cricket has never really caught on), but I have to confess that, despite being English, I’ve never really understood cricket either.

  1. I’m a native born American who is CRAZY about cricket… and was thrilled to see your comic show up in our hometown newspaper, the Daily Gazette in Schenectady, NY.

We have quite a few cricketers here in Schenectady, and have even managed to get a high school team together.

And believe it or not, there’s a LOT of cricket being played in the U.S. It’s just off the radar for most people.

For the past year, there’s been an exhibit at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY that focused on the relationship of cricket and baseball.

And the first week of May there’s the annual Philadelphia International Cricket Festival, which I’ll be attending, which is a phenomenal event, with matches played on grounds worthy of an English county club. I can’t wait!

Here’s a link to the festival website, if you want to check it out: http://www.cricketfestival.com/

I told everyone I know about the strip, and was so happy to see it.

Next, we need to have an Arctic Circle Test Match…. although they won’t be able to wear their whites… I guess it will have to be a One Day or 20/20 then…but they’ll have to use a pink ball or something!!!

Thanks again for a great strip.

    Yours in cricket,

    Steve

    • Brilliant – you can explain the rules to me if I ever get to Schenectady! My dad used to play in a village team and we would go and watch, but the game was so slow to us that we ended up more focussed on the picnicking/afternoon tea!

Thanks for stopping by – it’s great to hear when a cartoon connects with a reader.

  2. Love this comic, since I don’t really understand the game either. And the strip vaguely reminds me of Calvin and Hobbs, with the snowmen. Not to mention I truly laughed out loud, something I rarely do with cartoons. Must be my juvenile sense of humor. Would love the original of this one!
