Another Artist Mixing Penguins and Polar Bears

If I could start over again, I wouldn’t have penguins migrate to the Arctic in my strip – it is something I have to explain a lot – penguins should not be hanging out with polar bears (or speaking, for that mattter…). But I’m not the only one doing it and I was enchanted to receive this image in the mail from fellow artist and perpetrator, Erik Brooks :

Polar Opposites by Erik Brooks

I’ll have to find out how his penguin and polar bear got to be together! Erik?

  1. Thanks so much for the mention Alex 🙂 Technically, the polar bear and penguin in my book DO stay pretty much apart. They are “polar opposites” after all, in just about every way, including geography. However, they are also pen pals, and ** SPOILER ALERT ** once a year they take a vacation together somewhere along the equator. So I guess I’m twisting “the facts” in a slightly different way. I didn’t really even want the two friends sitting together on the cover, but all of my opposites-oriented ideas were set aside in favor of this one… So it goes!

It’s just a coincidence, but the polar bear in my book is an ‘Alex’ as well. He’s partial to late nights, later mornings, brights clothes, and loud music. Of course he’s the wrong gender and in the wrong hemisphere, but does any of that sound familiar?

    Thanks again and happy drawing!

    • Your polar bear sounds much more fun than me – I’m a morning person and have to wear earplugs at concerts!

      Thanks for dropping by, Erik!

  2. However, every worker will be given one week’s vacation at Mc – Murdo, which the primary U. As soon as you make it to one of these cities, you are going to have another several days of traveling by cruise to make it to Antarctica. Don’t get the idea that
penguins are all that Antarctica has to offer.
